The breathtaking landscapes, ancient caves and majestic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nigiri, and several other mountains are what makeup Upper Mustang Trek. The cultural and historical richness of Upper Mustang adds value to its natural offerings to any trekker from around the world.
The trek is of moderate level leading to a maximum elevation of 3840m at Lo-Manthang and requiring 5-6 hours of a daily walk. This region was opened to the trekkers only after 1990. While the limited number of trekkers explored this region until a few years back, the number is increasing significantly in recent times. The unique offerings of Upper Mustang make it one of the most rewarding treks on earth. Since Upper Mustang is a restricted region the foreign trekkers need to pay to the Department of Immigration at Kathmandu $500 for a 10-days trip and $50 per day for an extended trip for next 3 days.
The trekkers need to travel to Pokhara from Kathmandu and then to Jomsom before starting the trek. They have option of taking flights or road trip to Pokhara and Jomsom respectively. We've been in Higher Mustang just 2 days ago and we are enthusiastic about this part of Nepal. The trek is 12 days long to go and come back, but we don 't have had so much time,so we have come back by jeep for half of the return. We have contact Chandra (the manager),and our POLAR STAR,2 mounths ago and we have explaned our need.He has managed all the little details about our staying in Nepal ,including hotels and transfer in Pokara and Jomson (Mustang),we have booked by ourself just the intercontinental flight. He is very professional and He also speack english very well. We have knowed him and Super Rabin three years ago in a trek from Gorepani to Poon hill, and they have been as professional and careful even that time. We hope we come back whith they as soon as possible.
